My Story

I am a critical European nomad, observing the world from three different angles.

I work, I travel, I consume and just like so many others I wear different hats every day.

My guiding principles

I have always been an idealist who believes that things can change through action, education, and above all through love, lots of love.

My ‘green’ background

‘Green ideas’ have interested me since a long time and in all kinds of areas. Reading and informing myself has been good enough in the beginning, but little by little I started to take initiatives and begun to add the following sustainable habits to my daily life.

  • I bike whenever and wherever possible – which I learned from my Dutch husband.
  • I wear three pullovers in the winter.
  • I love to cultivate my vegetable garden – passionately and whenever possible and was even crowned the local ‘Tomato Queen’ in my neighborhood!
  • I sort my waste, build and use my compost whenever possible.
  • And most importantly: I changed my diet, became a vegetarian, and I started to became passionate about plant based food.

My journey

Life is constantly changing, and I often find it difficult to determine where I am and who I am today. I picture the most important components of my life journey as parts of my ‘life- kaleidoscope’, and many of these experiences have brought me to where I am today:

  • Mother of two children, which is the best, but constantly changing role of my life.
  • Architect, creator of living and working spaces, for individuals, families, and companies.
  • European tri-lingual nomad with a multicultural way of life.
  • Dog walker for my little Cocker Spaniel, who usually accompanies me wherever the wind takes us.
  • Chef for my family and friends: I cook vegan by preference, vegetarian most often and if required the carnivore way, but with a certain hesitation. In the winter I prepare the most traditional and comforting dishes for homeless people at ‘Hiver Solidaire’.
  • Volunteer educator at the ‘ecole comestible‘ in Paris: “We, at the ‘ecole comestible’, are convinced that we can change the world by the way we eat, and that it all starts in childhood.”
  • Supervisory board member of AFRIpads, a Ugandan company, which produces washable and reusable sanitary pads.

Today’s work

Today I am a storyteller and author of my upcoming children’s books. I love to tell stories about food and nature – of course and what else! Stories about Food

Too many hats? I don’t think so! All of these interests, roles and experiences have contributed to the creation of ‘Little Big Food Steps, a place where I want to share recipes, stories, and experiences about sustainable, green lifestyles.
